Vintage Athens T Shirts & Sweatshirts // How 'Bout Them Dawgs // Natty Champs // THE LAST RESORT
How 'Bout Them Dawgs!!! Congrats to the National Champions...they finally sleighed the beast...all Georgia Fans can die at peace now...and deservedly so! This post celebrates the iconic college town of Athens, GA and highlights the vintage fashion (t shirts and hats), food, music, tailgating, partying, and culture that takes the backseat to no college town in America!
Athens is such a unique place...undeniably and proudly southern, but sophisticated, cultured, progressive, and groundbreaking. Augustus Roark stands firmly behind places like this, that absolutely shatter all stereotypes of what a place can be.
We will show you how to "live like a local" for 24 hours and take "The Road Less Traveled" in Athens, GA!
You're probably waking up hungover from last call at THE LAST RESORT last night...but don't worry, you'll be back there tonight...you won't plan to be, but you will be. (QUICK SIDE NOTE: While many close down their night at the Last Resort, they also have incredible food and are one of the best fine dining experiences in town.)
To soak up the hangover, you'll be heading to Mama's Boy for a greasy breakfast to give you a jumpstart.
After a Bloody Mary and a Fried Chicken Biscuit, you're revived. Enjoying the weather, you stop into Wuxtry Records just to see if they've got anything new in stock.
Then you check out Agora Vintage to see if you need to stock up on some rad gear. Who knows...maybe they'll even have some Vintage Augustus Roark Athens T Shirts and hats available.
Now it's time to get a stretch in, and grab one last super strong coffee from jittery joes before you start tailgating and "Go Between the Hedges" at Sanford Stadium and watch the Dawgs whoop up on one of their many SEC Rivals.
After you've taken in a W and your voice is horse from yelling "Goooooo… “…Dawgs! Sic ‘Em! Woof! Woof! Woof!” it's time to continue the party with a post game libation at the Nowhere Bar to shoot some pool, and maybe even catch your first taste of live music for the evening. You can probably also catch some late afternoon/early evening SEC games where you root for your fellow SEC rivals to both lose...
Who knows, you might even be watching the next Futurebirds, Whigs, R.E.M. or Panic...and not even know it, so pay attention. This town spits out iconic indie rock legends almost yearly...
Now it's time for a delicious dinner at the Five & Ten. Sit outside on the amazing front porch.
Now's it's time for some more music. Probably start at the Georgia Theater for a local legend, could be the Birds, the Whigs, or maybe even one of the original legends will be hitting it tonight...maybe Panic.
Athens is so loaded with live music, that you may just have to split time and head out a little early from the Georgia Theatre and sprint over to the 40 Watt to see an up and coming Indie Rock Band. Just down the road, Atlanta legends use this as their training grounds, where truly groundbreaking bands like Deerhunter, the Black Lips, and King Khan and the Shrines frequent. Maybe you'll get lucky and another local legendary band that wants to dust off the guitars such as, Drive By Truckers, The Glands, Drivin' n Cryin, or Neutral Milk Hotel or will be playing tonight.
By this point, you're sweaty, legs are jelly, from dancing and partying all night. You decide it might be time to call it a night...but oh wait...you get a text from a bunch of your friends...they're all at the Last Resort and want you to come meet up, so, you take a deep breath, see that's it's 1:00 am, and you head over. You're greeted with high fives, hugs, and a shot. Deja Vu in all the best ways...you're right back where you started. You have some laughs, talk about some things Kirby Smart could have done better with the running game, but then agree, he finally bested Saban, so, best to just let him do his thing...but your last words to some buddies are about the 5 Star Recruit you'd better land next week from South Georgia.
Then, as a handful of your buddies graze by you, they say, we're hitting Little Italy for some pizza...or maybe even an Italian Sub.
Tempting, you thank them...but you actually decide to meet some friends you met earlier at the show at the Waffle House from some smothered and covered....
Life's all about options, and in Athens, there are endless options, but all roads lead to incredible music, incredible food, incredible football...and incredible friends. In Athens, your fate is inevitable...and inevitably fun and unforgettable. Tomorrow, you'll lick your wounds, cheer on your fantasy NFL team, or maybe just rinse and repeat the whole damn thing!
