Vintage Wrightsville Beach Surfer Tees // 2 Surfer Dogs with no Mustard // Live Like a Local in Wrightsville Beach for 24 Hours
The East Coast’s best beach is also its best kept secret. But without the local tips, you’ll miss it, or be standing in line all day like a chump! Here’s the local’s guide to the best 24 hours in Wrightsville Beach.
You’re waking up at the historic Blockade Runner, and taking an early morning dip in the pool to get the blood flowing. You’re glad you’re already on the beach, because, locals know, it can be bumper to bumper traffic getting on the island, but you don’t have to worry, you’re already there!
Start your day at Johnny Mercer’s Pier Boardwalk for some early morning fishing off the pier and then some low key beach time.
Next, head to Robert’s Grocery in the heart of Wrightsville Beach to buy your beer, a cooler, ice, fried chicken, and pimento cheese. You won’t eat this now, this is your must have party rations for your long day on the boat. Oh…and get the chicken salad, it’s known nationwide!
Before you hit the boat, check out South End Surf Shop for the best Vintage Surfer Tees and authentic boards
An absolute must is the trolley stop for hot dogs. This place is an absolute diet breaker, but well worth it. You’re having a Wrightsville Beach dog, a North Carolina dog, and 2 SURFERS WITH NO MUSTARD…yes, that’s 4 hot dogs. LOCAL TIP: Get in line no later than 11:30 am, otherwise you’ll be like for an hour and a half!
See if you can hitch a ride to Masonboro Island, the ultimate Local Surf Spot only accessible by boat. Careful, there are sharks! But on the other side of the island, the ultimate boat party rages almost daily.
If the party gets too wild, head over to the other side of the island at Mason’sInlet where the party still rages, but more for the 30+ crowd, retired Masonboro All-Stars.
Around 5:00 pm, head on the boat over to the iconic Dockside for margaritas and apps on the outdoor bar on the water. But, before you go, make a quick pit stop and dock up at the kitschy, quirky, Palm Tree Island and share some Pabst Blue Ribbon with the locals. https://instagram.com/lagerheads_wb?utm_medium=copy_link
Make sure you’re donning your locals approved, vintage soft surfer tees from Augustus Roark:
You can dock your boat right there.
After you’ve had a few margs, oysters, and peel & eat shrimp, head back to the beach bars, to Lagerhead’s, Red Dogs, or Jerry Allen’s, the ultimate local dive bars. You’re drinking Red Stripe.
If you need one last bite to eat, to soak up some booze, stop by Vito's for a giant slice of pepperoni for your walk back to the Blockade Runner. Epic day! You’ve just lived 24 hours that only locals know at the East Coast’s best kept secret, that is: Wrightsville Beach.
